Śrī Pañca-tattva

The Five Absolute Truths manifesting as Devotees in Śrī Mayapur Dhām

"pañca-tattvātmakam kṛṣṇaṁ bhakta-rūpa-svarūpakam / bhaktāvatāraṁ bhaktākhyaṁ namāmi bhakta-śaktikam"

"I offer my obeisances unto the Supreme Lord, Kṛṣṇa, who is non-different from His features as a devotee (Caitanya Mahāprabhu), devotional manifestation (Nityānanda Prabhu), devotional incarnation (Advaita Ācārya), devotional energy (Gadādhara Paṇḍita) and pure devotee (Śrīvāsa Paṇḍita)."

— Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta

Manifestation of Śrī Pañca-tattva

In the Pañcarātra scriptures there is a saying that in the ultimate analysis devotion is the only element which might cause the Lord to appear. That’s how the small Pañca-tattva came, due to the great desire and devotion of His devotees. Then, as long as the devotee wishes to serve Him, the Lord reciprocates in the same way.

Regarding the big Pañca-tattva Deities, Their magnificent forms were manifested in South India and installed in Śrī Mayapur Dhām in 2004 during a glorious multi-day festival.

At Mayapur, the Deities’ installation was made with several Vedic procedures. Matter and space were purified, preliminary cleansing and protection were accomplished through Sudarśana homa, and Their senses were awakened in netronmīlanam. During the ceremony, spiritual masters touched parts of the Lord’s body with kuśa grass to invoke life, followed by a grand abhiṣeka accompanied by non-stop roaring kīrtana.

Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu

Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu is the source of energy for all His devotees. He is mahā-vadānyāvatāra, the most magnanimous incarnation of the Lord, for He does not consider the offenses of fallen souls. In order to take full benefit of the Hare Kṛṣṇa Mahā-mantra, we must first take shelter of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu.

"The loving affairs of Śrī Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are transcendental manifestations of the Lord’s internal pleasure-giving potency. Although Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are one in Their identity, They separated Themselves eternally. Now these two transcendental identities have again united, in the form of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya. I bow down to Him, who has manifested Himself with the sentiment and complexion of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī, although He is Kṛṣṇa Himself." (C.C. Ādi 1.5)

Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu

Devotees understand that Lord Nityānanda is Lord Balarāma Himself — the first expansion of Kṛṣṇa. He is the master of all spiritual strength and mercy.

Lord Nityānanda is even more merciful than Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. After Nitāi was struck on the head with an earthen pot by Jagāi and Mādhāi, He stopped Lord Caitanya from slaying them, begging the Lord to transform them through love instead. By His request, Mahāprabhu spared the brothers, who immediately surrendered in total devotion.

Śrī Advaita Ācārya

Advaita means non-dual because He is non-different from the Supreme Lord. Ācārya means He is disseminating Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Advaita Ācārya is Mahā-Viṣṇu, who incarnationally descends as a servant-devotee.

It was Advaita Gosāñi who prayed to the Lord by offering sacred Ganges water and Tulasī leaves to His Śālagrāma-śilā Kṛṣṇa Deity, loudly roaring his request for Lord Caitanya to descend and deliver the universe.

Śrī Gadādhara Paṇḍita

Gadādhara Paṇḍita is the incarnation of devotional energy (śakti-tattva) and the internal pleasure potency (Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī and Lalitā-sakhī).

In this incarnation, He spent his life as an intimate associate of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu, helping spread the transcendental pastimes and glories of the Lord.

Śrī Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura

Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura is the incarnation of the pure unalloyed devotee of the Lord (jīva-tattva) and an incarnation of Śrī Nārada Muni. He represents the head of all pure devotees.

In Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura’s courtyard (Śrīvāsa Aṅgan), Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu and Lord Nityānanda held nocturnal saṅkīrtana pastimes, delivering all souls who entered their association.
